What is Straw? In this particular case, it is a collaborative artist-run exhibit space that invites artists to come to the Tyler building and show their work in the interdisciplinary setting of visibility between departments, faculty, students and public community.
Down the Green Hallway and to the right, just inside the double-doors leading to the sculpture woodshop, Straw is a seeming recess into a wall with a hidden vertical climb allowing for a show of intimate and upward proportions — 33 in long, 96 in wide, 30 ft tall
Straw will host free events and programs in between exhibitions to facilitate deep public engagement and encourage dialogue between visitors of all ages, artists, and their work. Anticipated events include lectures, small discussions, readings, video screenings, and performances. Straw is open and free to the public during the University campus’ operational visiting hours.
To apply to be a part of Straw, there will be an open and rolling application form available at the beginning of May through August to build the calendar for 2019-2020.
An event calendar, selected artists’ work and artists’ talks will be archived through the platforms on this website. (TBA)
